Liberian Students Clash with Moroccan Police Over Delayed Scholarships

A large gathering of Liberian students in front of their embassy in Rabat was not to the liking of the Moroccan authorities, who had to use force to disperse the protesters. They were protesting against the delay in the disbursement of their study grants.
According to the students’ statements, the Moroccan police would have shown roughness towards them. Information that was formally denied by the head of the communication service within the Liberian Embassy in Rabat.
"The police did not go to the Liberian Embassy in Rabat. It followed from afar the movement of the students who began to disrupt people in the street," said the Liberian official.
He added that "each country has its own means of dealing with public demonstrations," before specifying: "To our knowledge, the students left the Embassy, before starting to hinder the free movement of citizens, forcing the police to intervene".
The communication manager also announced to the students the upcoming receipt of financial allowances, through the Ministries of Finance and Education, adding that those who have completed their studies will not be entitled to it.
