Lesotho Withdraws Recognition of Western Sahara's Self-Proclaimed Government

The Kingdom of Lesotho no longer recognizes the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR, self-proclaimed in 1975).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho, Lesego Calayl Makghoti, stated that any previous decision or declaration concerning the Sahara and the "SADR" was suspended, during an interview with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. He also said that this decision would be communicated to SADC (Southern African Development Community) and regional and international organizations.

In this regard, the two countries have decided on the imminent opening of their respective embassies "to strengthen their bilateral cooperation". This is a real coup de théâtre that is likely to displease the enemies of Morocco’s territorial integrity, given that Lesotho has just revised its position after the fact.

This revision of the position of the southern African kingdom comes after a similar announcement was made in early October, followed by a reversal by the Lesotho Prime Minister’s Office.

This new statement by the special envoy of the Lesotho Prime Minister’s Office is the right one, since the statement by the special envoy of the Lesotho Prime Minister’s Office has been published and a video should also be published, "Our dialogue has also allowed us to better understand the issue of Western Sahara. We have conducted an in-depth assessment of the effectiveness of the Kingdom of Lesotho’s position on this regional dispute," said the special envoy of the Prime Minister of Lesotho.
