Lebanese Outrage Grows Over Moroccan Prince’s Call for Revolt After Beirut Blast

Sunday 9 August 2020, by Sylvanus

Prince Moulay Hicham and the Islamist sheikh Hassan El Kettani made offensive remarks towards the Lebanese after the two macabre explosions in Beirut. The Lebanese press and Internet users are crying out in outrage.

In a Facebook post, the prince called on the Lebanese to revolt. This call has provoked many reactions. "Why are these calls for rebellion not enough for what is happening in Syria, Libya and Yemen, and what is your problem with the internal problems that concern only Lebanon?!" retorts le lebanon Press.

For this Lebanese media, Prince Moulay Hicham’s calls are in no way productive. "Can your words help heal the wounds of thousands of injured, orphans and children who have lost their families? Could this sweet talk shelter thousands of displaced Lebanese families due to the collapse of their homes?!" he asks him, before inviting him to follow in the footsteps of King Mohammed VI.

The sovereign has ordered the sending of humanitarian and medical aid to the Lebanese, as a show of support for this people wounded by the explosion of August 4. Unlike the prince, King Mohammed VI has never interfered in Lebanese affairs, the Lebanese media affirms.

On Facebook, the Islamist "emir" Hassan El Kettani distinguished himself in the same way as Moulay Hicham. The sheikh regrets that the explosions only occurred in a Sunni area. He tries to make amends by writing "if a calamity occurs somewhere, then it is natural that you take care of your family first". Without success. His discourse of hatred and sectarianism continues to make waves.
