A Lebanese national suspected of proselytizing near schools was arrested this week in Essaouira.
According to the newspaper Al Akhbar, this Lebanese man residing in Casablanca had in his possession several religious books that he was distributing near schools and high schools in the city.
The distribution of religious books or the incitement of Moroccans to change religion is severely punished by the Moroccan Penal Code in its Article 220, which punishes "anyone who uses means of seduction in order to shake the faith of a Muslim or convert him to another religion, either by exploiting his weakness or his needs".
