Leadership Battle Intensifies in Morocco’s PJD Party Ahead of 2021 Election

The anticipated succession of Saad-Eddine El Othamni at the head of the PJD is open. Rebbah and Amara would be neck and neck within the different clans already campaigning to succeed the one who was elected on December 10, 2017 for a 5-year term.
The internal divisions within the PJD under Saad-Eddine El Othmani are so open that Rebbah and Amara would be seen within the majority of the party’s leaders, as well as their ideologues from the Movement for Unity and Reform, as the only ones able to save the party from the shipwreck that awaits it, reports the daily Assabah.
This choice is all the more important as it could also determine the name of the future Moroccan Prime Minister, in the event of a PJD victory in the next 2021 elections, the same source specifies.
Already Aziz Rebbah is weathering the blows of the "Benkirane clan" who accuse him of not being soft towards Abdelilah Benkirane within the "clan of PJD ministers". But this cannot be understood as a blank check for Abdelkader Amara to replace Saad-Eddine El Othamni at the head of the party, since Benkirane announced last week that he intends to run again for the leadership of the political party. An ambition that the MUR, with its three members on the PJD General Secretariat, is ready to stop. The leaders of this movement, including Abderrahim Chikhi, once Benkirane’s close friend, have already vetoed any return of the latter.
One slogan for the MUR and the ministerial clan of the PJD regarding the choice of the future SG of the party: anyone but El Othmani and Benkirane.
