Lamine Yamal vs Messi at the Stade de Rabat: the crazy dream of UEFA and Conmebol
Morocco could replace Qatar for the organization of the final between Spain and Argentina on March 27. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are pushing UEFA and Conmebol to consider relocating the match to Rabat.
Initially planned at the Lusail stadium in Doha, the Conmebol-UEFA Champions Cup is looking for a new host venue. According to the Spanish daily AS, the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat is in the lead to host this prestigious confrontation between the two giants of world football.

While the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid was a natural option, local authorities fear an insurmountable security challenge. On the same day, the Metropolitano stadium must already host a friendly match between Morocco and Ecuador, making the simultaneous organization of two major events too risky in the Spanish capital.
UEFA and Conmebol are also considering the alternative of Wembley, a safe bet for this type of event. A crisis meeting is scheduled by March 5, 2026 to seal the final arbitration between the Moroccan option and the London football temple.

This possible shift comes as the sports calendar in the Kingdom is undergoing other adjustments. According to Jeune Afrique, the 16th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup, initially scheduled for March in Morocco, should be postponed to the summer of 2026, between July and August.
