La Rochelle Airport Marrakech Route Booming Record Passengers
Despite soaring jet fuel prices, La Rochelle-Île de Ré Airport is in excellent health. Buoyed by the outstanding success of the Marrakech route, the Rochelais tarmac is also preparing to restore its connection to Porto.
The sky shows no signs of darkening over La Rochelle-Île de Ré Airport. While the international context drives up fuel prices, passengers are responding. In April, the Marrakech route posted a record load factor of 90%, ahead of Marseille (88%) or Lyon (80%). "To date, we are not seeing any significant impact on our load factors," says Thomas Juin, director of the airport joint syndicate. For him, the real challenge is not finding customers, but rather offering enough flights to satisfy demand that is saturating current capacity.

In this wake, Ryanair is relaunching its Porto connection on June 3rd, suspended last winter due to French taxation. This destination was the second most frequented before its interruption. This momentum confirms the 2025 trend, a record year with over 303,000 travelers, which allowed the airport to return 630,000 euros to local authorities. Despite the tax increase, the airport refuses to undercut its rates to attract airlines. "We must not be financial losers," insists the director, who now hopes to see the Portuguese route establish itself permanently throughout the year.
