Kuwaiti Man Accused of Child Sexual Abuse Flees Morocco, Evading Trial

Prosecuted on provisional release for the embezzlement of a 14-year-old minor and sexual abuse with violence, the 44-year-old Kuwaiti national has finally managed to escape justice by leaving Morocco with impunity.
Released on January 28 last by the Court of Appeal of Marrakech, after paying a bail of 30,000 dirhams, the defendant did not appear at the scheduled court hearing on February 11.
Several voices had been raised against the surprising decision of the court to grant provisional release to an individual who had admitted his crimes. For the National Human Rights Council, this is a form of contempt for the minor child and the Moroccan woman in general.
Described as a judicial scandal undermining Moroccan justice, the case had shocked and outraged public opinion, with accusations directed at the Attorney General and the Deputy President of the High Council of the Judicial Authority.
