Kuwaiti Businessman Arrested in Spain for Abusing Moroccan Domestic Worker

Hemar, a wealthy Kuwaiti businessman based in Calpe, Spain, abused his domestic worker, Fatima, a Moroccan woman. Denounced by the victim, he was arrested by the Civil Guard as he was about to flee his home with his two children.

For a month, Fatima, a young Moroccan woman, lived in hell. As a domestic worker, she had to take care of the two 5 and 8 year old children of Hemar, the Kuwaiti businessman. He raped and beat her, sometimes in front of his children.

One day, as he was beating her, she managed to escape. On the way, she crosses a man from their neighborhood who seems to be in cahoots with Hemar. "Don’t tell anyone. With money, everything can be fixed," he had told her instead of coming to her aid.

The newspaper El Mundo specifies that as Hemar was about to flee with a few bags and his two children, Civil Guard agents, already alerted by Fatima, arrested him just in time.

In one of his bags, 100,000 euros in cash were found, the same media reports. For her part, Fatima, who says she feels completely paralyzed, has informed the investigators of the details of her captivity.

However, the idea that Hemar could kill her, as he had already tried so many times, pushed her to refuse a medical examination.

Faced with Hemar’s refusal to testify, who nevertheless benefited from the services of two prominent lawyers from Barcelona, the Civil Guard did not doubt the victim’s account, which moreover bore physical evidence of her mistreatment. Hemar was then placed in detention.

The Civil Guard elements are looking for the neighbor who had not come to Fatima’s aid, for failure to assist a person in danger.
