King Mohammed VI on a visit to France

Photos of King Mohammed VI, showing him without crutches in a store in Paris, have sparked a wave of comments on social media. Many Moroccans were reassured to see the Sovereign in better shape, after having had some health issues.
King Mohammed VI had been seen with a crutch at the end of October, during the welcoming ceremony for French President Emmanuel Macron, who made a three-day state visit to Morocco. The monarch was suffering from "a muscle contraction in the back, on the right side, due to sciatica," according to a medical source.
These symptoms, observed in the Sovereign during recent official activities, are very common and are often caused by "compression of the nerve root in the spine," explained a neurologist, stressing that apart from the difficulty in standing and moving that it can cause, this muscle contraction is not a serious illness and responds quickly to treatment.
