King Mohammed VI Urges Action on Water Supply for Morocco's North and Northeast

A press release from the Royal Cabinet reports on a working session on the water issue, chaired by Mohammed VI at the Royal Palace in Rabat last Thursday.

According to the press release, "The sovereign has emphasized the issue of water supply in the areas covering the North and Northeast of the Kingdom, extending from Oujda to Tangier."

This operation will double the water needs of these regions in summer and throughout the year, "due to the development of tourism and the remarkable dynamism generated by the major industrial projects already in place or projects and jobs created in this field."

Among these projects, the press release from the Royal Cabinet mentions "socio-economic projects requiring strengthening of the water supply capacity, the Renault automotive ecosystem or the Tanger Tech Mohammed VI City project." The Royal Cabinet especially informs that "these needs will be met through interconnection schemes and the three new large dams that will be built in this area, including the Bni Mansour dam which will have a capacity of more than one billion cubic meters."

Mohammed VI therefore took the opportunity to call on the entire government to work to "finalize the national priority program on water and its management." This is close to the sovereign’s heart and "which will have to pay particular attention to securing the supply of centers that suffer from a chronic lack of water, and provide remedies to the problems of water resource management, over the next thirty years."
