King Mohammed VI Returns to Morocco Amid Heightened Security Measures

King Mohammed VI is expected to return to his residence near the town of M’diq. He had been forced to cut short his vacation after the death of his mother, Princess Lalla Latifa, which occurred on June 29.
A massive deployment of elements from the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces and the National Security has been put in place along the entire National Road number 2 connecting Tangier and Tétouan, as well as inside the latter and all along the highway connecting Tétouan to Fnideq for the arrival of King Mohammed VI. The sovereign’s convoy is expected to arrive this weekend at Tétouan’s Sania R’mel airport, reports Rue20. It will then head to the town of M’diq before going to the royal residence near the Oued Smir beach. The receptions that the Moroccan sovereign grants during the Throne Feast will be maintained, as will the allegiance ceremony, the same source believes.
In June, King Mohammed VI spent a few summer vacation days in his residence in M’diq. He celebrated Eid al-Adha and participated in the prayer on the occasion at the Tétouan mosque. But the death of his mother, Princess Lalla Latifa, widow of the late Hassan II, which occurred on Saturday, June 29, forced him to cut short his stay.
