King Mohammed VI Mourns Jean Daniel, Influential French Journalist and Nouvel Observateur Founder

King Mohammed VI shares the sadness of all those who have been touched, following the death of Jean Daniel, founder, director and editorialist of the Nouvel Observateur. He sent a message of condolences to Michèle and Sarah Daniel to express his closeness of thought for this great loss.
In this message, the King said he had "learned with great sadness of the passing of Jean Daniel at the end of a life nourished by passion, commitment and a professional ethic that has been able, with consistency, elegance and courtesy, to make room for debate and contradiction".
He especially paid tribute to this witness and actor of his time, who followed, and often accompanied, the most significant stages of the contemporary history of Morocco. He says he keeps preciously in memory, like many of his compatriots, the last interview the illustrious deceased conducted with the late His Majesty King Hassan II, on July 6, 1999, two weeks before his passing.
"This last mark of trust has sealed with the seal of friendship a shared journey in mutual respect. And it is in this memory that I wish to assure you here of all my sympathy, asking you to believe in the assurance of my compassion and my consideration," concludes the message.
