King Mohammed VI May Attend Arab Summit in Algeria, Sources Say

The next Arab summit to be held from November 1 to 2 in Algiers could see the participation of King Mohammed VI.
According to very well-informed sources, "on instructions from the highest Moroccan authorities, contacts have been established with several Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain) to inform them that King Mohammed VI will personally attend the 31st Arab summit" to be held from November 1 to 2 in Algiers, reports the pan-African magazine Jeune Afrique.
Clearly, the breakdown of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Morocco has no negative impact on participation in multilateral events. The Sahara issue remains one of the points of friction between the two neighboring countries. The American recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara in exchange for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel and more recently the change in Spain’s position on the issue have revived tensions between Rabat and Algiers.
