King Mohammed VI Leads Push for Vocational Training Reform in Morocco

King Mohammed VI has again brought together the Head of Government, heads of public institutions and his advisers to discuss progress on the thorny issue of youth training.

In a press release, the Royal Cabinet indicates that the sovereign "presided, on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Royal Palace in Rabat, a presentation session of the roadmap for the development of vocational training and the creation of ’Cities of Trades and Skills’ in each region".

And to recall that several other meetings had already been organized in the past, mainly dedicated to the promotion of vocational training.

Last October, the meeting attended by several government members as well as the Head of Government Saad-Eddine El Othmani himself was devoted to upgrading the vocational training offer, diversifying and enhancing trades and modernizing teaching methods.

A month later, the sovereign had chaired another meeting on monitoring the issue of qualification and modernization of the vocational training sector. He had also questioned the progress of the implementation of the industrial acceleration plan for the Souss region "which has not recorded any progress since its launch", calling the department concerned "to redouble its efforts and assume its responsibilities, in order to accelerate its implementation within the allotted time".

In February, King Mohammed VI had also chaired a working session devoted to the program to upgrade the vocational training offer and renovate the sectors and teaching methods. The sovereign had asked the government to adopt a realistic approach that rigorously outlines the priorities based on the needs of the national economy and the labor market, social expectations and the aspirations of Moroccans.
