King Mohammed VI Impersonator Sentenced to 18 Months for Fraud in Morocco

The Court of First Instance of Rabat sentenced, on Friday, October 11, the double of King Mohammed VI to 18 months in prison, for recidivism and fraud in the name of the Alaouite Dynasty.
While he wanted to file a complaint against an unknown person who would have modified the license plate of his car, the Prefectural Service of Tangier discovered, during the check-in operation, that the individual was the subject of a wanted notice from the Rabat Security.
He claimed that legal proceedings were underway to regularize the situation of his victims.
According to the daily Assabah, the man had been under police surveillance since he was photographed in a popular restaurant in Rabat, wearing clothing similar to that of the King. The photo had gone viral on Facebook, before internet users discovered the deception.
In 2014, the suspect had received 3 years in prison, before the Tetouan court reduced the sentence to 6 months, due to the absence of victims. He had not shown any sign of life for 4 years.
A search of his personal car and his home allowed the seizure of a dozen sets of clothing, a sum of 130,000 dirhams, as well as a fake card of belonging to the royal family, issued, according to his confessions, by a high-ranking personality.
The individual was placed in pre-trial detention at the local Laarjat prison, for using a false identity and for having promised his victims to solve their legal problems in exchange for money.
