King Mohammed VI Grants Moroccan Citizenship to Notable Foreigners

King Mohammed VI has granted Moroccan nationality to several public figures, including Algerians, Iranians and French. In 2013, the king had granted nationality to the Algerian Raï singer, Cheb Khaled, and to Faudel.
Mohammed Reda Nouri, the husband of the Moroccan ambassador to the United States and an Iranian businessman, as well as the Algerian writer, born in Taza to a Moroccan mother, Kebir Mustapha, have been naturalized as Moroccans by the King of Morocco.
The sovereign has also granted citizenship to the French novelist based in Marrakech, Michel Canesi, author of the novel Villa Taylor, as well as to the amateur polo player, the Frenchman Patrick Guerrand-Hermès, owner of the Palmeraie Polo Club and several stables in Larache.
Several other public figures have been naturalized as Moroccan, including the French singer of Algerian origin Françoise Altan, the German boxer of Moroccan origin Mohamed Zine, and the Russian-Austrian artist Mairbek Taisumov.
