The king of cannabis" definitively convicted: Moufide Bouchibi sentenced to 16 years for his trafficking from Morocco

The Court of Cassation rejected Moufide Bouchibi’s appeal on Thursday, thus making his conviction to 16 years of criminal imprisonment final. He was accused of having imported cannabis into France from Morocco.

This sentence, handed down in September 2024 by the Bordeaux Court of Appeal, takes into account the recidivist status of the accused and is accompanied by a two-thirds security period as well as a one million euro fine. The justice system found this 45-year-old Franco-Algerian guilty of having organized the importation of several tons of cannabis from Morocco during the years 2011 and 2012.

He who has gone from the status of former dealer to that of "baron" of the traffic, nicknamed "the king of cannabis", has been the subject of four successive trials. Convicted in absentia to 20 years in prison in 2015, he had then received 18 years on appeal in 2022, before obtaining a new judgment following a first appeal to the Court of Cassation.

His long flight had ended in March 2021 in Dubai, where he had been arrested after nine years of fugitive status under a false identity. Transferred to France, he had opposed his conviction by default. On the issue of his arrest, the European Court of Human Rights also rejected the applicant’s request last June, while his defense has always denounced a "disguised extradition".
