Xi Jinping Reaffirms China-Morocco Partnership in Brief Visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping made a quick stopover in Morocco after participating in the latest G20 in Brazil. A lightning visit during which he reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening its cooperation with the kingdom.
Welcomed by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, accompanied by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, Xi Jinping reiterated during this unofficial visit to Morocco the wish of China to strengthen its ties with the kingdom, in particular to "firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective fundamental interests, and promote greater development of the China-Morocco strategic partnership," according to a statement published by Xinhua, the Chinese news agency.
Asking the Crown Prince to convey his greetings to King Mohammed VI, "the President stressed that China and Morocco have seen a healthy development of their relations, with fruitful practical cooperation and increasingly dynamic exchanges in various fields," the agency writes. Xi Jinping also assured of China’s willingness to work with Morocco to implement the recommendations of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the 10th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Arab States Cooperation.
For his part, Prince Moulay Hassan welcomed the good health of the Moroccan-Chinese bilateral relations and thanked China for its support during the Covid-19 pandemic. "Noting that the two countries had similar positions on many issues, he said the Moroccan side was ready to work with China to support each other in preserving national sovereignty, security and stability," the Chinese news agency said.
