Japan Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Stance on Western Sahara Conflict

Japan maintains its position on the conflict around the Sahara. Takuji Hanatani, Japan’s Ambassador to Morocco, reaffirmed this to Habib El Malki, President of the House of Representatives.
Japan’s position on the Sahara remains "constant and unchanged". With assurance, Takuji Hanatani, Japan’s Ambassador to Morocco, hammered that "Japan has never recognized and will never recognize the so-called SADR", during the exchanges he had with Habib El Malki, the President of the House of Representatives. Moreover, he confided that Tokyo has always aligned itself with the relevant resolutions of the Security Council.
Takuji Hanatani also noted that the pseudo-Republic is not invited to the meetings organized by his country as part of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, unlike the 54 countries recognized internationally as members of the African Union, according to a press release from the House of Representatives.
For his part, the President of the House of Representatives highlighted the actions taken by the Kingdom to find a definitive solution to the conflict around the Sahara, while reiterating Morocco’s commitment to the UN settlement process.
For Habib El Malki, the United Nations remains the only body responsible for this file. For him, the "origins of this conflict date back to the Cold War period".
"This is a regional conflict from the beginning and the world has become more aware of the circumstances of this artificial problem," concluded El Malki.
