Italian Firm Wins €140 Million Contract for Morocco’s High-Speed Rail Project

The Italian group SITE, specializing in integrated technological infrastructure solutions, has announced that it has concluded a 140 million euro contract with the National Railway Office (ONCF) as part of the high-speed train project connecting Kenitra to Marrakech.
In a press release published Friday, June 6 on its website, the Italian group specifies that this contract includes the implementation of the railway telecommunications network (high-capacity optical fibers and GSM-R system), power supply systems, as well as advanced cybersecurity solutions, in accordance with the standards of the European ERTMS level 2 system, which guarantees safety, interoperability and increased railway traffic capacity.
SITE will play the role of "System Integrator" in this strategic project, which will also be implemented by the French company Compagnie des Signaux, a subsidiary of the Mermec group, and the Italian Generali Costruzioni Ferroviarie. It aims to connect airports, logistics platforms and large stadiums that will host 2030 World Cup matches, such as the Moulay Abdallah and Hassan II stadiums, through 400 kilometers of high-speed lines.
The contract signing "confirms our company’s competence in managing complex projects combining telecommunications, energy and security, in promising international markets such as Morocco," said the CEO of the SITE group. The Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line is part of the preparations for the 2030 World Cup that Morocco is organizing jointly with Spain and Portugal. It is also part of the national plan to extend the rail network to 5,000 kilometers and increase the number of cities served by trains from 23 to 43.
