Israeli Parliament Speaker Amir Ohana to Make Historic Visit to Morocco

Amir Ohana, Speaker of the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament), is expected to visit Morocco in early June. A first for the politician, a prominent member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party.
Ohana’s visit, who is also of Moroccan origin, follows an official invitation from the Moroccan Parliament, according to information reported by the Israeli public media Kan. In Israel, the politician is well known for being the first openly gay deputy to hold the position of Speaker of the Knesset, a position he has held since December.
Morocco and Israel, which have recently signed several cooperation agreements as part of the Abraham Accords, are seeking to strengthen their relations. The latest initiative: an artisanal exhibition entitled "Diyala", presenting various aspects of the rich heritage of Moroccan Jewish culture, is being organized in the Israeli city of Hadera, in coordination with the city of Fez.
