Israeli Firm NewMed Energy Eyes Natural Gas Exploration in Moroccan Sahara

The oil and gas exploration company NewMed Energy intends to invest in natural gas exploration in the Moroccan Sahara.
In the eyes of NewMed Energy’s CEO, the Moroccan Sahara is a large reservoir of natural gas. "Morocco will become an energy hub in the future due to its stability and the diversity of the sources it relies on. [...] The Moroccan Sahara is a large reservoir of natural gas," Yossi Abu told Russia Today, adding that NewMed Energy is working to attract capital to invest further in the energy sector in Morocco.
In Morocco, NewMed Energy is investing in three areas: natural gas, renewable energy and green hydrogen. "We believe that Morocco has enormous potential for the discovery of natural gas, particularly in the Moroccan Sahara, and we want to be a major player in Morocco, and we are coming to invest. Morocco is ideally positioned to become a global energy hub, given its stability, geography and proximity to Europe," the official continued.
NewMed Energy is Israel’s "largest energy company". It holds natural gas deposits in the eastern Mediterranean that supply Israel, Egypt and Jordan. According to its CEO, it has invested $12 billion in this field over the past decade.
