Israel Recognizes Moroccan Sovereignty Over Western Sahara, Polisario Front Condemns Decision

Israel has just officially recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, after more than two years of normalization between the two countries, joining a list that includes the United States, Germany and Spain. This decision has elicited a reaction from the Polisario.
Mohamed Ali Zerouali, the Polisario Front’s representative in Paris, told RFI that he was not surprised, adding that these two countries were part of a "club of countries that do not respect international legality" and that destabilize their respective regions.
For the official, no change could occur as long as Morocco and its allies do not respect international law. The only viable solution, according to him, is a "free, general and regular referendum" allowing the Sahrawi people to self-determine in accordance with international legality. He also indicated that Morocco knew well that "the only partners to advance the peace process are the Sahrawi people and their representative, the unique and legitimate, the Polisario Front".
