Israel-Morocco Ties Strengthen: Ambassador Hails ’Natural’ Diplomatic Normalization

Joseph Oded, Israel’s ambassador to Kenya, believes that the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and the Hebrew state is a "natural" decision due to the cultural and historical ties between the two countries, through the large Jewish community of Moroccan origin.
"This rapprochement is likely to strengthen cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of the two peoples," said Joseph Oded in a joint interview with the Moroccan ambassador to Kenya, El Mokhtar Ghambou, on the KTN News channel. He also praised King Mohammed VI’s leadership in terms of peace, modernity and development. "In Morocco and Israel, we have leaders who seek peace, modernity and development [...] We strongly welcome this kind of leadership," he said.
The Israeli diplomat also reacted to the recent working visit of the Israeli Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid to Morocco. According to him, the protocols of agreements signed during this visit will bring bilateral cooperation to a higher level and help bring the peoples of the two countries closer together.
For his part, the Moroccan ambassador to Nairobi discussed the restoration of relations between Morocco and Israel and the American recognition of the kingdom’s sovereignty over the Sahara. "This tripartite context inspires us to go further in our relations," said El Mokhtar Ghambou, adding that this promising tripartite cooperation should convince the Kenyan government to review its position on the Moroccan Sahara, which remains a major obstacle in the relations between Rabat and Nairobi.
