Israel-Morocco Ties Open High-Tech Opportunities, Says Legal Expert

Dana Firon Gross, one of the partners of the Israeli law firm M. Firon & Co, which has formed a partnership with the Moroccan subsidiary of the French law firm UGGC Avocats, believes that normalization with Morocco presents exceptional business opportunities, particularly in the high-tech sector, for Israel.

In an op-ed published by Calcalistech.com, Dana Firon Gross states that Morocco has a skilled workforce to offer Israel in the high-tech sector. She recalled that the president of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (the umbrella organization representing 90,000 Moroccan companies) declared during the visit of the first Moroccan trade delegation to Israel in mid-March that the kingdom is teeming with engineers graduated from local universities, some of whom are also graduates of European universities.

"The representatives of the delegation explained that since the local Moroccan industry is still quite small, the possibility of employing Moroccan engineers in Israeli companies seems to be a solution that would serve the interests of both parties. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the launch of a joint technology training program for students from the Moroccan University of Engineering and Reichman University. If Israeli companies have figured out how to employ Ukrainian engineers, the remote work model seems more relevant than ever for Moroccan high-tech workers and engineers as well."

In addition to the skilled workforce, Morocco offers a favorable business ecosystem and a gateway to Africa, as well as tax incentives for foreign investors. Assets that lead Dana Firon Gross to affirm that Israeli high-tech industries and investments can play a strategic geopolitical role by giving real substance to the Abraham Accords between Israel and Morocco. "Whether it’s the transfer of know-how and capabilities, the employment of engineers or investments in Moroccan companies, the normalization of diplomatic relations with Morocco presents exceptional business opportunities. Will we be ready to take up the challenge?" she concludes.
