Israel and Morocco to Resume Direct Flights After Months-Long Suspension

Suspended for months, direct flights between Israel and Morocco will resume by early April, at the end of Ramadan. The two countries formalized this decision during the recent visit to Marrakech of Miri Regev, the Israeli Minister of Transport, to attend the Fourth Global Road Safety Congress.
On the sidelines of this international meeting, the Israeli minister held several sessions with Moroccan authorities. At the end of these exchanges, which focused in particular on cooperation in the field of air transport, the two parties agreed to restore commercial flights between Rabat and Tel Aviv, which had been suspended for several months.
Morocco and Israel normalized their diplomatic relations in 2020, within the framework of the Abraham Accords under the aegis of the United States. Since then, the two countries have strengthened their bilateral cooperation in the sectors of tourism, trade, defense, agriculture and new technologies.
Before the interruption of direct flights, many Moroccans made tourist or business trips to Tel Aviv, boosting air traffic and trade between the two countries.
Miri Regev’s visit to Marrakech was also an opportunity to sign agreements for the implementation of infrastructure projects and technological partnerships in the field of mobility. The minister had also been the subject of a complaint by activists of the Palestinian cause in Rabat.
