Islamist MPs Push to Dissolve Moroccan Amazigh Institute Amid Language Debate

While the Government Council is working on the adoption of regulatory texts to strengthen the officialization of the Amazigh language, Islamist deputies are planning the death of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM).
Islamist deputies are preparing to put the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) to death by introducing an amendment during the examination of the organic law establishing the National Council of Culture and Languages.
They justify their act by the fact that Morocco will have a national council that encompasses everything, says Maghreb Intelligence. In other words, it seems unnecessary to have IRCAM. One institution more. The only paradox: these Islamist deputies do not adopt the same position regarding the Institute of Arabization.
"These people are playing with fire and there is a difference between scratching their base in the right direction and preserving the country’s interest and unity," says an Amazigh cause activist. For him, IRCAM is a great achievement, not only for the Amazighs, but also for the whole country.
