Islam in Europe: Morocco allocates 10 million euros for the religious supervision of its diaspora
The Moroccan government has announced an investment plan for the religious supervision of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE). It aims to financially support Islamic associations and strengthen cultural ties, particularly in Europe and Canada.
The Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, detailed this plan during a session at the House of Representatives. He announced the allocation of more than 105 million dirhams (9.8 million euros) to financially support 18 Islamic associations. The official objective is to "strengthen the religious orientation and provide an open and balanced spiritual environment" for Moroccans residing abroad.
Religious guides and a new digital program
This financial support is part of a broader effort to support MREs. The ministry has also revealed that it has sent 372 religious guides to nine countries during the last Ramadan, a mission accompanied by the distribution of 345,000 copies of the Quran to various mosques and centers. The objective of these actions is to unify a religious discourse qualified as "moderate" and to "connect the new generation to its authentic Moroccan identity".
To complement this system, the minister also announced the upcoming launch of a new media program. It will be an interactive and multilingual program, broadcast daily on digital platforms, in order to "bring religious knowledge closer to the new generations".
