Intoxicated Off-Duty Police Inspector Draws Weapon in Rabat Dispute, Sparks Investigation

An investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office was opened on Saturday, February 29, by the Rabat prefectural service, in order to elucidate the exact circumstances and motives that led a police inspector to brandish his service weapon.
A dispute had broken out in the Yaacoub el Mansour neighborhood in Rabat, between two individuals, one of whom was a police inspector in a state of intoxication, and a third person. Although he was not on duty, the officer had nevertheless tried to use his weapon, aiming it at his detractor, before a police patrol intervened to end the conflict.
The press release from the General Directorate of National Security, which reported the incident, specifies that the service weapon was not loaded, and that all the people involved were taken into custody by the police patrol before being taken to the police station.
The police inspector was placed in custody, pending his appearance before the courts. His friend and the third person involved were subjected to a judicial investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, in order to determine the exact circumstances of this case.
