Interpol-Wanted Chinese Fugitive Arrested in Morocco for Embezzlement

A Chinese national was arrested on Wednesday by elements of the Laâyoune police prefecture, in southern Morocco. Aged 38, he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the Chinese judicial authorities for his alleged involvement in a case of embezzlement of public funds.
According to a security source quoted by MAP, the database of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) revealed that the suspect was under a red notice issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Beijing. The arrest warrant concerned his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of substantial sums while he was working as a manager in a Chinese public institution.
The accused was placed in custody on the orders of the competent prosecutor’s office and is awaiting to be presented to the judicial authorities in charge of extradition requests for criminals in accordance with national legal texts and relevant international conventions.
