Interpol had issued a red notice against a Tunisian who was arrested last Friday in Bouznika. Considered the most wanted man in international drug trafficking cases, he is in the sights of the Italian Ministry of Justice.
The arrest of the Tunisian took place last Friday in the Al Amal neighborhood in an apartment belonging to his Moroccan fiancée residing in Italy, reports Assabah. Interpol had issued a red notice against him after his arrival in Morocco. Brought before the prosecutor of the king near the court of first instance of Benslimane, this 45-year-old man will then be placed in pre-trial detention in the Tiflet 2 prison, reserved for foreign detainees.
In Italy, the Minister of Justice had issued a wanted notice against him for his connections with international drug trafficking networks. His arrest in Morocco is part of the framework of international security cooperation. He will therefore be extradited to Italy in the coming days. According to Article 729 of the Penal Code, "the prosecutor or one of his deputies may proceed with the arrest of a foreign national at the request of the judicial authorities of a country or following a red notice from Interpol".
According to the procedure, once the prosecutor of the king notifies the Ministry of Justice or the Attorney General of the Court of Cassation of this arrest and transmits the relevant documents for the extradition of the accused, the defendant will appear before the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation. In turn, the court will hear him in the presence of a lawyer and then consider the request for his extradition to Italy five days after his referral.
