Interpol Hosts Major Police Summit in Morocco to Combat Terrorism and Cross-Border Crime

Wednesday 27 November 2019, by Ginette

From Monday, November 25, 2019, police chiefs from the Middle East and North Africa, as well as those from the Comoros, Djibouti, Sudan, Somalia and Mauritania, are holding the 4th meeting of police services in Marrakech. This is the first time that Interpol has chosen Morocco to host such a meeting.

This two-day meeting of police chiefs aims to find the means and strategies to be implemented to further strengthen cooperation between Interpol and the police services of the participating countries. Moreover, all the personalities participating in these proceedings are convinced of the need to consolidate a common cooperation, capable of bringing together all the necessary conditions for the preservation of peace and security and the fight against terrorism, extremism and cross-border crime.

The opening session was marked by the projection of two institutional films. The first was devoted to highlighting the progress made by Morocco. It especially exposed the achievements of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the mechanisms put in place by this institution to effectively fight against terrorism, extremism and organized crime.

As for the second, it is in a way a reminder of the missions and attributions of Interpol since its creation in 1923 and its constant support to the police services of the member countries of the Organization for the promotion of international police cooperation and the fight against various forms of crime in different regions of the world.

It should be noted that at the opening of the proceedings, the participants observed a minute of silence to pay tribute to the memory of police officers around the world who have fallen in the line of duty.
