Innovative Waste-Collecting Net "D-Rain" Attracts Interest from Morocco and Tunisia

Morocco is showing interest in the "D-Rain" device. This is a net that collects macro-waste and provides real-time information, installed last Tuesday on a stormwater outfall in the Old Port. A world first.

In addition to Morocco, Tunisia is also interested in this innovation. The "D-Rain" device is a 4-meter by 3-meter collar weighing 1.7 tons, a double-mesh net that can collect 10 m3 of waste, according to Le Parisien. It allows to warn when this net needs to be emptied and provide real-time analyses of seawater thanks to numerous sensors... This device targets macro-waste. Behind this innovation is the Marseille start-up Green City Organization, founded by three divers.

"80% of marine pollution comes from land. Rainwater drainage networks carry a lot of waste that ends up in the sea. Our solution, which allows blocking debris the size of a cigarette butt, took us two years of work," says Isabelle Gerente, founder and president of the start-up. "We act on pollution before it scatters offshore and to the bottom. This first in the Old Port is our showcase."
