Imprisoned Moroccan Protest Leader on Hunger Strike, Seeks Unusual Donation

Nasser Zefzafi, leader of the Rif Hirak, who has been on a hunger strike for 9 days, wants to make a rather surprising donation. This is at least what his father, Ahmed, has made known, who visited him at the local prison of Ras Elma in Fez on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

Following this visit, the father of the leader of the Rif Hirak posted a video on his Facebook page. In this video, Ahmed Zefzafi recounts the detention conditions and the wish of his son. The father of Nasser Zefzafi said that his son, Nabil Ahamjik, and five other Hirak activists, have been on a hunger strike for 9 days.

"Nasser and Nabil don’t even see each other during their daily walk, as one precedes the other, without ever crossing paths," said the father of the Hirak leader. He denounces "instructions to psychologically destroy these two detainees".

Referring to Nasser Zefzafi’s "health problems", he stated that the Hirak leader would be ill, and that he would like to "donate his organs". He wonders if his son’s medical file "has reached the Ras Elma prison or not". He will recall that "a request has been addressed" to the director of this prison establishment, and another to the Attorney General of Fez.

On Friday, February 28, 2020, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) provided a formal denial of the "statements and allegations of a relative of the detainee (N.Z), incarcerated in the local prison of Ras El-Ma in Fez, in the context of the events in Al Hoceima, regarding a hunger strike".
