Imprisoned Moroccan Protest Leader Earns High School Diploma with Honors

Nasser Zefzafi, the leader of the Rif Hirak sentenced to twenty years in prison, successfully passed his baccalaureate exam this year.
"After 24 years of absence from the classrooms, Nasser Zefzafi obtained the baccalaureate this year in the literature and human sciences stream with honors," announced Ahmed, the father of the leader of the Rif Hirak, in a Facebook post. Nasser Zefzafi obtained an average of 14.31 out of 20 on this exam, after taking it from the Tanger prison where he is serving a twenty-year sentence.
According to the final results announced by the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, 245,881 candidates, including 143,366 girls, were declared admitted to the 2024 baccalaureate, a success rate of 67.8%, up 8% compared to 2023. In detail, the success rate is 72% among girls and 62.6% among boys.
This year, the baccalaureate session saw innovations including the digital transfer of exams and the digital coding of candidates’ exam papers. Candidates have started receiving the digital version of their baccalaureate diploma since Wednesday, June 26, with the paper version available as of this Thursday.
Note that 147,317 candidates will take the retake session exams from July 10 to 13, 2024. The results of this session are expected on July 19, 2024.
