IMF Study: Morocco’s Highways Among Africa’s Fastest, Ranking 3rd on Continent

Morocco’s intercity roads are among the fastest in the world. This is the result of the ranking by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which studied the average speeds in 162 countries.
With an average speed of 95 kilometers per hour (km/h) and the quality of the infrastructure, Moroccan roads rank third in the ranking of the fastest roads in Africa behind South Africa (100 km/h) and Namibia (99 km/h). Botswana is in fourth place with an average speed of 91 km/h.

On the other hand, Guinea has the slowest intercity roads on the continent with vehicles traveling at an average speed of 50 km/h, below the widely adopted speed limit of 60 km/h. Then come Madagascar (51 km/h), Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, whose average speed is between 55 km/h and 60 km/h.
"The fastest roads in the world are found in the richest economies, including the United States, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Canada. The slowest roads are found in the poorest countries," the IMF said in a blog, also noting that slow roads are "another obstacle to inclusive growth."
