IMF Chief to Visit Morocco Ahead of 2021 World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristina Georgieva, is expected from February 17 to 20 for a working visit to Morocco. During a press briefing held on Thursday in Washington, Gerry Rice, the IMF’s Communications Director, stated that "the visit is part of the preparations for the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, scheduled for October 2021 in Marrakech".
Since she has been at the head of the IMF, this is Kristina Georgieva’s first visit to Morocco. The IMF Managing Director will have meetings with senior Moroccan officials and will also participate in a roundtable on governance, in the presence of some members of civil society and young people, according to MAP.
It was in April 2018 that Morocco was officially designated to host the 2021 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, after a long process of evaluating the applications submitted by 13 countries.
The choice made on the Kingdom attests to the confidence of the two institutions in Morocco’s ability to successfully organize global events, writes the same source.
