Illegal Structures Demolished Along Agadir’s Coastal Promenade

Saturday 1 March 2025, by Sylvanus

In Agadir Ida-Outanane, the local authorities are proceeding with the demolition of several illegally constructed buildings on the promenade of the tourist village of Taghazout.

Agadir Ida-Outanane is fighting against the practices of illegal occupation of the maritime public domain. The first phase of the demolition operation will concern all the structures located on the maritime public domain, in particular the spaces located on the route of the project to connect the village of Taghazout and the tourist resort of Taghazout Bay, via a promenade extending from the commune of Aourir to the Madraba area in Taghazout, reports Achkayen, specifying that "the second phase will take place after the completion of the construction of the promenade".

Marks had been placed on several buildings and cafes destined for demolition. Their owners were informed of the demolition decisions issued by the authorities concerned.

Next step: all owners of buildings and cafes located on the Taghazout promenade, and which fall under the maritime public domain, will be called upon to regularize their situation. If they do not regularize their situation, a new wave of demolitions will be undertaken.

Prior to this operation, hideouts and dwellings that had been used for decades to store surfing equipment on the communal territory of Aourir were demolished. Several buildings were also demolished in the Imi Ouaddar region, north of Agadir. According to the explanations of the regional director of Equipment and Water in Agadir, the launch of this operation is justified by the economic and tourist importance of the beaches of Agadir, which has attracted the attention of many economic actors. Hence the need to take the appropriate measures to protect them against any anarchic exploitation.
