Illegal Donkey Meat Ring Uncovered Near Casablanca Ahead of Eid Al-Adha

The discovery of remains and heads of donkeys, mules, and other animals in a landfill in Al Massira III (Moulay Rachid-Sidi Othmane), not far from Casablanca, on the eve of Eid Al-Adha, continues to fuel debates and raise concerns and questions.
Competent authorities are on high alert since the discovery of these animal remains. According to the initial elements of the investigation conducted by the relevant services, "these meats from donkeys, mules, and other suspicious origins would be sold in the market circuits of the country’s economic capital, taking advantage of the high demand on this occasion and the soaring prices, which have reached 170 dirhams per kilogram," reports Assabah.
It is not excluded that "these meats of dubious origin have mainly served as the basis for the Eid Al-Adha feast menu of several families in the region, where butchers would have sold them at the same price as those from cattle and sheep," details the daily newspaper. For now, the competent authorities have not provided any information on this macabre discovery, leaving room for rumors and speculations among the population and on social networks.
Some local officials have confided that these remains were horse meat intended for horse butcher shops. A version confirmed by citizens who claim that it would be a "mixture of meats from horses and donkeys, whose deboning operation would have been carried out by professional butchers." These meats would then be sold in the region at the price of those from cattle and sheep.
