Iconic 1992 Expo Building in Seville Vandalized, Two Arrested

Left abandoned, the Moroccan Pavilion, one of the iconic buildings built for the 1992 Expo in Seville, has recently been vandalized. Two individuals have been arrested as the alleged perpetrators of this act.
The property had been abandoned and lacked security at night. Until last March, it was the headquarters of the Parks and Gardens department. A year and a half ago, the Seville City Council had ceded this Moroccan Pavilion to the Pablo de Olavide University with a view to developing an international social, cultural and academic center there. But the building has remained unoccupied since then, reports ABC de Sevilla.
The offenders forced the main door of the Moroccan Pavilion and vandalized the premises, causing significant material damage and taking away electrical cables. University sources explained to the Spanish media that the damaged area is an annex of the building that has no heritage value, and that the main building of the Moroccan Pavilion has not suffered significant damage.
The same sources assured that they have already taken measures to ensure that the property is now under private security. The police have opened an investigation to elucidate this act of vandalism. Two suspects have already been arrested by the police. The investigation is ongoing.
