Hundreds of Unauthorized Coastal Shacks Demolished Near Agadir, Morocco

The local authorities of the Imsouane region, under the prefecture of Agadir, have launched an operation to demolish the shacks, buildings erected without authorization along the coastal strip in the region.
The demolition operation started after a short 24-hour deadline was given to the owners to vacate the premises. In total, some 200 shacks will be destroyed in the region. The inhabitants of the region disapprove of this decision of the local authorities, considering the 24-hour deadline given to the owners to vacate the premises too short.
The operation to free the public maritime domain started a few weeks ago in several areas along the coast of the region. It aims to put an end to all forms of illegal occupation on the beaches of the region (Tifnit, Sidi El Toual, Douira, Sidi Rbat, Sidi Boulfdail), up to the border between Chtouka Ait Baha and the province of Tiznit, and to resolve the environmental and security problems caused by these shacks.
