Heroic Delivery Driver Rescues Nine from Belfort Apartment Fire

A fire broke out on Avenue Jaurès in Belfort on February 13. In total, nine people trapped in a residence were saved by Menouar Amine Mezoura, an Uber Eats delivery man, in training as a plasterer. Firefighters and residents salute the courage of the 28-year-old.
As he was going on Sunday, February 13 in the evening to a restaurant on Avenue Jean Jaurès in Belfort to pick up tacos for a customer, Menouar Amine Mezoura saw flames at number 92 and managed to save nine people inside, reports France Bleu. Four of them were slightly injured, while the other five were seriously injured. "I didn’t think, I heard the children, and the adults screaming that they were there. I didn’t think, I just wanted to save them, not make a buzz," says this Algerian, who has been living in Franche-Comté for a year. He also came out injured in the foot.
After this rescue, Menouar receives many messages: "Bravo for your respect, you are wonderful, courageous. There are a lot of positive messages." "It’s an exploit, it’s heroic. Personally, I would have been incapable of it," says his neighbor Mohammed, met on the spot. "It is surely and certainly a reflex act that could be described as highly altruistic. We can only be grateful and in a way, quite admiring: nine people were still involved in the fire. It is an exceptionally dangerous, risky act," the firefighters of the Belfort territory through Colonel Olivier Charpy saluted. "We know that a fire, a fire fueled by the spread of particularly devastating smoke and flames, can be deadly in the first moments before the arrival of the rescue services. And so what he was able to accomplish is certainly an act of great bravery. Bravo and thank you to him."
