Heavy Rains Expose Roof Leaks at Marrakech-Menara Airport, Raising Safety Concerns

The leaks observed at the roof of the Marrakech-Menara airport following the heavy rains that hit Marrakech at the end of last week are worrying a deputy who has questioned the government on this matter.
"The thunderstorms that hit Marrakech on the evening of Sunday, October 13 revealed the fragility of the roof of the Marrakech-Menara airport, where water flooded the floor of certain parts of the airport due to significant infiltrations through the roof during the rainfall, which surprised travelers, the majority of whom were foreign tourists," said El Mehdi Fatimi, a deputy from the socialist group, in a written question addressed to the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil.
The parliamentarian asked what measures the government "intends to take to address the water infiltrations at the Marrakech-Menara airport and prevent such incidents from recurring." El Fatimi also wants to know "whether there are ongoing investigations to determine the technical or architectural causes of these leaks," and whether "the standards and regulations have been respected during the construction and maintenance of the airports in order to prepare them to withstand exceptional weather conditions."
The socialist deputy also asked if "the security of the airport facilities has been recently evaluated."
