Flooding Disrupts Travel as Heavy Rains Batter Southeastern Morocco

The onslaught of runoff waters following heavy rains hitting several regions in southeastern Morocco has led to the interruption of traffic on many road axes, particularly in the provinces of Tinghir and Ouarzazate.
Traffic on National Road number 10 connecting Ouarzazate to Errachidia has been completely blocked due to heavy rains that caused flooding in the commune of Souk Lakhmis Dadès, near Kelaat M’Gouna. Similarly, National Road number 9 between Marrakech and Ouarzazate has been cut off due to heavy rains in the city center of Ouarzazate, as well as in the commune of Aït Zineb and the surrounding communes of the Tichka pass.
The local authorities have recommended that the population avoid using road axes that cross valleys or wadis, considered dangerous, in order to prevent human and material damage and ensure the safety of the population. Violent storms accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds have been hitting the southeastern provinces since Friday, particularly in the communes of Télmi and Msemrir in the province of Tinghir, as well as in the city of Agdz in the province of Zagora.
Videos that have gone viral on Facebook show several cities in the region under water after the heavy rains that began on Friday and will continue until Sunday.
