Health Official in Morocco Fired for Mishandling COVID-Infected Doctor Case

The delegate of the Ministry of Health in Tétouan, Dr. Mohamed Ouahbi, was relieved of his duties on Tuesday for having shown lightness in the management of the case of a doctor infected with the coronavirus, who resumed service after his return from Spain.
It all started with the ministry’s decision to close a private clinic and a medical office belonging to this doctor, after discovering that the accused, although infected with the coronavirus, had resumed service. This doctor "performed two surgeries in disregard of the rules and protocols in force in order to ensure that he was not infected with the virus before starting his work," it is said.
More seriously, the results of the preliminary investigations opened against the defendant by the Attorney General of the King in Tétouan as well as by the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Health, finally showed that the doctor holds a general medicine certificate and is not authorized to practice gynecology.
According to the ministry, the doctor violated professional and ethical rules by endangering the lives of others, while usurping the identity of an obstetrician-gynecologist, when he is a general practitioner.
Pending legal proceedings, the delegate of the ministry in Tétouan was immediately replaced by Abdelaziz Bouyaïch, working within the same delegation.
