In Morocco, toxic substances would have been discovered again in dates imported from Algeria. Internet users are calling on the authorities to strengthen border controls, just days before the holy month of Ramadan.
Several Moroccan activists have called for a boycott of Algerian dates after this discovery, urging consumers to source dates produced in Morocco in order to support local farmers.
In response, the National Office of Food Safety assured that the Algerian dates available on the national market do not contain carcinogenic substances and that it has strengthened the monitoring and control of imported consumer products, in order to preserve the health of Moroccans.
