He kills Adam in Montpellier, then tries to flee to Morocco: five years later, a plaque for the child

On August 21, 2021, Adam was returning home with his mother, his two sisters and relatives when a car travelling at high speed left the road and hit the group. Seriously injured, the boy died six days later. A white march subsequently brought together between 500 and 600 people.

The investigation established that the driver was travelling at 86 km/h instead of 50, with 1.33 g of alcohol per litre of blood, after consuming cocaine and cannabis.

After a year in pre-trial detention, the man was released under judicial supervision in August 2022. Three days later, he was arrested at Marseille-Provence Airport while attempting to board a plane to Morocco.

Eight years in prison, followed by a tribute to Adam

The driver was ultimately sentenced to eight years in prison and a ten-year ban on retaking his driving licence. The Montpellier Court of Appeal upheld this sentence in April 2023.

Five years after the tragedy, Adam’s memory will now be inscribed in the public space. An initial initiative had already led to an olive tree being planted in his memory in the Amandiers park.

The City of Montpellier, whose announcement of the ceremony was relayed by ToutMontpellier, plans to unveil the plaque on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. It is to be installed at the Jean-Pierre Suc roundabout, near the place where Adam was fatally struck.
