Trial Set for Driver Accused in Teen's Death After World Cup Match

The trial of the alleged perpetrator of the death of Aymen, the 13-year-old violently struck by a car three years ago in the Mosson neighborhood after the France-Morocco football match, will finally take place in Montpellier next October.

Three years after the violent death of Aymen, the alleged perpetrator, William C., will be tried on Wednesday, October 22 and Thursday, October 23, 2025, for voluntary assault and battery resulting in death. The trial will take place before the criminal court of Hérault, sitting at the Court of Appeal of Montpellier, reports Métropolitain.

The tragic death of this fervent Morocco supporter, which occurred on the evening of December 14, 2022, had caused shock and outrage in the city. William C., at the wheel of his car, had driven into a group of jubilant youths after the France-Morocco semi-final during the Football World Cup, violently hitting the schoolboy before fleeing.

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested on December 27, 2022, in Saint-Estève, near Perpignan, after crossing the Perthus border from Spain where he had taken refuge, according to investigators. Transferred to Montpellier, he was indicted and imprisoned.

"For three years, his family and friends were very impatient for the trial to be held, they were beginning to find the delay too long and were losing hope," confides Marc Gallix, the lawyer for Aymen’s family. The parents, brother, and two sisters of the victim are waiting for the conviction of the alleged perpetrator to begin their mourning process.
