DJ Hamida Returns with "Sunshine": Franco-Moroccan Artist’s New Summer Album Aims to Uplift Post-Lockdown

Whose real name is Ahmed Sidi Taanoun, the Moroccan artist has emerged on the music scene in recent years as a DJ and record producer. His new opus Sunshine is a collaboration with ISK, LECK, Cheb Bello. A way for the artist to accompany his fans throughout the summer.

Known for the release of the "À La Bien Mix Party" and "Meknessi Style" series that he promotes, the artist took advantage of the release of this new album to revisit his passion and the difficult period that music has gone through due to the coronavirus pandemic. In an interview with CNEWS, he explained that there have been changes in the new proposal he is leaving for the appreciation of his fans. "It is indeed always a pleasure and a joy to release a new album. This year, in addition, it is quite special. It is the first post-Covid-19. And I must admit that there is a bit of stress compared to the previous one."

DJ Hamida is offering an album in a different format with several new features. While he is convinced of having done a good job, he does not know how the public will receive it, especially since the pandemic, according to him, has upset so many things, changed the perception of things, and scarred emotions. "We have just experienced a global pandemic, in which we are still, and of course we do not know how people will receive this album. And in music, everything goes very fast."

When asked why he moved from "À la bien Mix Party" to "Sunshine", he replied that it was time to move on to other things, especially since "À la bien Mix Party" has existed since 2007. "We are in 2021, after a while, change is needed. Sunshine is the name of the title by Fat Joe with DJ Khaled and Amorphous released recently. I’m a fan of funk and I said to myself, Come on, Sunshine, it’s perfect!"

Among DJ Hamid’s qualities is his ability to convince enough artists to collaborate with him and participate in his albums. For him, it is not the celebrity of the artist that pushes them to collaborate, but simply because they have learned to love and appreciate his proposals. "I am glad that the artists are always as enthusiastic to participate. For example, ISK was delighted. He has been listening to my sounds for years. It is thanks to my background that I succeed. As always, in addition to the sounds, there are references to Morocco."

According to DJ Hamida, Sunshine allows all those who cannot go to Morocco to find themselves through the sounds and colors. "With the pandemic and closed borders and complications for people to go to Morocco, I said to myself: you cannot go to Morocco? Morocco will come to you. That’s also why there was a wink with the famous Moroccan taxi that we find in the intro of Sunshine," he said.
